Hello to all BJMers! It’s been 3 weeks on campus. Hope everyone stays safe and gets new experiences this semester. However, you might have seen some new friends in one of your classes and if you are wondering who those people are, we have an answer here for you!
“I want to learn more about different ways of being a journalist”
Ana Carbonell, a 22-year-old from Mexico, come to an exchange program at B.J.M. for one semester and enrolled in five subjects including JM 412 Convergent Journalism, JM 372 Photography for Communication, JM 330 Radio and Television Production, JM 301 Art for Communication, and JM 310 Editorial and Article Writing.
Back at home, she is a journalism major at her university, ITESO. She decided to take classes related to her major as she wants to know how other countries do journalism.
After studying for one week, she feels excited to learn more in the classes because people are so friendly to her. So, she can describe B.J.M. in her own words as very open, hands-on learning, and interesting.
To give a message to BJMers friend, she said that she may not know Thai but she is willing to learn it and she appreciates how friendly everyone is. And she wants to tell more about her expectations for becoming an exchange student. “I want to learn more about Thai culture and explore Bangkok more. And I want to learn more about different ways of being a journalist,” She said.
“Thai People are so kind to me”
Yuzuriha Masuda or Yuzu, is a 22-year-old senior from Nagasaki University. She comes to an exchange program as her home university doesn’t have many courses in media and journalism-related. She decided to enroll in 4 classes including JM 319 Current Affair, JM 306 Global Media Industry, JM 427 Seminar in Journalism and Social Change, and JM 402 Multicultural Communication.
After being in Thailand for 3 weeks and studying for 2 weeks, she feels good and gets a new experience as she thinks Thammasat people are fashionable, good looking, and both students and professors can speak English very well. So, it is clear to understand the classes and make her enjoyable.
Kind people, Humor teacher, and Active student is how she describes B.J.M in her own words. “People are so kind to me and teachers also have a sense of humor. “Moreover, people in this faculty are so active and use Instagram more than Japanese,” She said.
While she is still in Thailand, she wants to learn Thai, eat all the main Thai food, and would like to travel around this country. “If anyone can recommend me about traveling, please feel free to let me know,” She left a message to BJMers.

Mizuho Kodama or Mina, a 21-year-old from Japan, come to an exchange program at B.J.M. for two semesters, and the reason why she chooses our faculty is that she really wants to learn Journalism and related field. She enrolled four classes in this semester which are JM 270 Film Studies, JM 302 Communication Research, JM 402 Multicultural Communication, and JM 230 Intro to Broadcasting. Her professor also supports her to come to Thailand because she believes that the Thai atmosphere will be suitable for her along with the activities that she can enjoy.
After two weeks of the semester, she found that Thai students are good at switching moods during the session. “While studying, Thai students are so good at concentrating in class, and when the break comes they switch the mood really quickly, all fun, friendly and energetic,” she said.
Even though she doesn’t know much about the Thai language but she really wants to learn more because Thai people impress her a lot. “Before I came here I know only basic Thai words, but after I came here I feel that Thai people are so friendly and it stimulates me to want to learn more Thai,” she said with excitement.
Before going back to Japan, her wish list, while she is in Thailand, is that she wants to go to Thai temples and beaches. Although her most important wish for her is to be able to make friends with Thai people.
