Application step
To qualify for the scholarship, I ensured I stood out as an exceptional candidate. I aimed higher than the required scores for exams like the GED and IELTS. For instance, the minimum IELTS band for admission was 6.5, but I achieved an overall score of 8. Similarly, the GED requirement was 580, and I scored 680.
Apart from the essentials, I included extra documents:
-A detailed portfolio showcasing my education, volunteer work, and job experiences.
-Two recommendation letters—one from a former employer and another from a teacher.
-A statement of purpose, sharing my motivations for applying to BJM and my personal journey.
-Any additional certificates or documents that could add weight to my application, like language certificates or course completions.
Written Test
Preparing for the written test involved researching current events, especially in the media industry and practicing some sample topics in clear structures.
The essays revolved around topics like media bias and spotting misinformation, each requiring 500 words within an hour.
Interview
For the interview, I practised my self-introduction several times to ensure a smooth presentation and made sure to include an interesting fact about myself, such as my internship at a local radio station. The goal was to show confidence and the ability to communicate effectively under pressure.
Before the interview, I reviewed my SOP and submitted documents to ensure consistency. If I didn’t know the answer, I didn’t pretend. Instead, I asked for a moment to gather my thoughts or politely deferred with “Could I come back to that?” to buy time while answering other questions.
